Musical Chairs: Who will grab the remaining seats?

It certainly has reached that time in the offseason when GM's, players and agents get baseball fever, just like us fans do. Although some free agents have been signed, many remain unsigned and are continuing the cat and mouse game that is "Lets make a deal."

Many find it hard to fathom that Prince Fielder still remains unsigned this late in January, with just a month before spring training. For me, its harder to believe that guys Juan Pierre, Raul Ibanez, Johnny Damon, Vladimir Guerrero, Ivan Rodriguez, Manny Ramirez, Maglio Ordonez, and Derek Lee are all guys who are not currently being courted. During my baseball card collecting days, these were the superstars! Yet now, with teams having just a few million dollars available, they are waiting for these old-timers price to go down. Now is when we see who will continue to play for the love of the game with a measly  $1MM contract, and who will be forced to retirement due to fear of embarrassment for accepting a contract for such little value.

As Matt Cerrone writes on Metsblog.com, the same applies to veteran pitchers. He cites Kyle Davies, Zack Duke, Jon GarlandRich HardenLivan Hernandez and Brad Penny as pitchers which teams would give a look to if their asking price basements. He writes: "Because there are so many available pitchers and so few spots, it reads like teams are pushing low-base salaries (like $1 million) and a minor-league deal with incentives if they make the Opening Day roster."

It will be interesting to see who ends up where...we'll just have to wait and see...and of course speculate based on what kind of deal they get or don't how much they still love the game!
